If you're ever in a quiet room enjoying a rare, uninterrupted moment on the computer, it's probably safe to assume that things aren't so quiet and peaceful elsewhere in the house. I have three kids this week, my two and then also my neice who is 3 1/2 years old and little sweetie. Of course with one extra in the mix, things are a little more chaotic than usual this week, good, but chaotic, so my quiet moment was extra enjoyable. Pretty soon Ember comes in to say, "Mom, you'd better get out here and look at this!" This little guy is what we found, and unfortunately the picture doesn't quite capture the mess of dirt behind him on the floor and up on the chest, which is also where we keep the library books. But boy was he proud of his work! Is it ironic that my last post was about his new-found independence? Oh well, I really can't be upset when I have a cute little face like that to look at!

It's official, Gavin's taken a few steps! We realized he could stand on his own for about 30 seconds when we were down at the river on Saturday, and since then we've been able to get him to walk a few steps to us on his own! He's quite proud, and we've shown everyone who's seen us this weekend, so I guess we're pretty proud too! And no, we don't have any pictures or video clips of it yet so you'll just have to take our word for it! :D

Emberly and I have made eachother a deal, we're both going to practice our violins this summer! I play my violin all the time, but I feel like it's been ages since I've actually practiced something for me. It's much different than my days back in university, holed away in the practice rooms for hours. Now I have a baby at my feet pulling all my music books off the shelves, and a 4 year old saying, "Mommy stop! It's my turn!" But today she agreed to let me finish whatever I'm playing at the time before she tries to talk to me! She's my motivation, if I'm going to ask her to practice every day, I better be willing to do it too! So we'll see how we do, but so far so good!

It's a few minutes from midnight and I'm sitting in my quiet living room, in my chair next to my lamp, the exact same place I was sitting one year ago at this time. Tomorrow my baby will be one year old, and because I'm such a sentimental fool, I'm sitting quietly in my chair eating my Callebaut chocolate cheesecake! Yum! Last year at this time I was hugely pregnant, but two weeks from my due date, and I was staying up late to enjoy my chocolate cheesecake in peace and quiet and finish sewing the hair on Emberly's waldorf doll. I had no idea I'd be welcoming my sweet baby boy into the world in the next 7 hours! So I just had to pick myself up a piece of this delicious cheesecake and revel in the memories. Tomorrow we'll be having a little family party at the farm with the Grandparents, so I should have lots of fun pictures. Hard to believe it's been a year!

This is a little moment of Gavin's that I caught this morning as he was waiting to go to church. I think he recognizes a beautiful day and wants to be a part of it! We all felt that way I think, so after church we packed ourselves a family picnic and headed for a lake close by. We haven't had a lot of family fun days lately, so it was nice to just get out and play a bit. We had our sandwiches and veggies, and then Ember just couldn't help herself and had to get to the water. She was soaking by the time we left, but it was worth it for an evening in the sun. I hope everyone else had a rejuvinating Sunday!
I feel a little more relaxed this evening than I've been for a few days! Just the little stresses around here have been getting to me, and with a husband working full time and taking summer classes, I'm home quite a bit with my two adorable kiddos. They really are wonderful, but every mama needs some breathing room sometimes. Today I kicked myself into gear while Derick was at school and cleaned my house really well! Then I left kids with Derick and I did the grocery shopping, funny how grocery shopping without kids can be kind of a fun outing! And then tonight we had a babysitter and enjoyed dinner out and a movie! Bliss! And now I feel like I can handle another week! :) I'm off to bed now, hopefully to enjoy a full night's sleep and then I'll be able to conquer the world!
